The Heroes for Healthy PetsTM certification program was created to help veterinary professionals and pet businesses create facilities dedicated to being disease free. The program is co-sponsored by the International Boarding & Pet Services Association, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, Pet Sitters International, Barkleigh Productions, VETgirl and PetVet Magazine and is powered by Clorox Healthcare and Merck Animal Health, makers of Nobivac® vaccines.
Module One: Understanding Infectious Disease: Dr. Robert Armentano is an Internal Medicine specialist at Veterinary Specialty Center. He received his DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois and did his residency at the University of Florida at Gainesville.
Module Two: Infectious Disease Control: Dr. Jennifer Herring is Director of the Emergency & Critical Care Department at Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove and is the Director of the Rotating Intern Program. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.
The program is free and provides 2 hours of RACE approved continuing education credit for veterinary professionals, 2 hours PACCC approved continuing education credits for pet professionals, and 2 hours of continuing education credits for pet sitters. Heroes for Healthy PetsTM business certification are also available through an application process when at least 50% of staff members are individually certified.
