Show Your Commitment to Pet Health with the Heroes for Healthy Pets® Certification Program

In the ever-growing pet care industry, ensuring the health and safety of our animal companions is not only an ethical matter—it’s crucial for the reputation and continued success of your business. Recognizing the need for boarding facilities, veterinary practices, grooming facilities, and other pet care businesses to stay on top of the latest infectious disease management best practices, IBPSA—in collaboration with the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and Pet Sitters International—is pleased to present the Heroes for Healthy Pets® Infectious Disease Management Certification Program.

What is the Heroes for Healthy Pets Program?

Based on guidance issued in 2016 by a panel of leading infectious disease experts that outlined best practices for pet care and safety within pet care services businesses, the Heroes for Healthy Pets program is tailored to help these businesses maintain a disease-free environment. The program undergoes updates every three years to ensure that it aligns with current laws and guidelines.

Heroes for Healthy Pets examines common infectious diseases among dogs in particular. From the canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC) to Leptospirosis, Parvo, and Distemper, participants will gain invaluable insights into disease incidence rates, clinical signs, and prevention strategies. The program also addresses the management of outbreaks in group environments, including the latest guidance on vaccination and sanitation best practices.

How to Get Certified

Attaining certification through the Heroes for Healthy Pets program is FREE for IBPSA Members and non-members alike! If you’re interested in taking the online course, simply register at https://learn.ibpsa.com/heroes. If you’d prefer to attend the class in person, visit petcareconference.com to sign up for our free seminar, which will take place as part of the pre-conference programming on September 23, 2024 in advance of our annual FLOW Business Conference.

If you opt to take the course online, you’ll need to pass a final certification exam that demonstrates your understanding of infectious disease management principles. There is no final exam for the in-person session. Once certified, you will receive a Heroes for Healthy Pets certificate to display as a testament to your commitment to pet health and safety. This can help instill trust and confidence in your clients, thereby giving you an edge in a competitive industry. Certification must be renewed every five years.

As pet care professionals, it is our collective responsibility to prioritize the health and well-being of the animals entrusted to our care. The Heroes for Healthy Pets Infectious Disease Management Certification Program has been specifically designed to equip businesses with the knowledge and tools needed to create a safe and hygienic environment for pets, while also providing peace of mind for pet owners and demonstrating a commitment to safety and excellence.
