Are You Prepared to Save a Pet’s Life? Pet CPR and First Aid Class in October Will Teach You How

Pet parents in the U.S. spent $58.4 million on their pets last year, and the number is estimated to hit $60 million in 2015. From luxury grooming to posh pet beds, we are happy to pull out the pocketbook for our furry family, but could we save their lives in the event of a medical emergency? Like human CPR and first aid, the life-saving skills and techniques needed to save a pet’s life should be learned.

In October, the International Boarding and Pet Services Association (IBPSA) presents a 4-hour course that will cover a number of valuable first aid skills and information to help keep dogs and cats happy and healthy. The Pet CPR and First Aid Workshop is available for pet parents, pet facility staff, and shelter volunteers on October 19, 20, 21, or 22, 2015, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn DFW North.

Students will learn three types of CPR, restraint and muzzling, rescue breathing, choking management, shock management, and bleeding protocols. You will also learn what to do for snake bites, insect bites and stings, what should be in your pet first aid kit, priorities of care, and primary pet assessment. Additional education includes “Snout-To-Tail” wellness and injury assessments, heat and cold injuries, assessing a pet’s vitals, and more. The class also includes a 40+ page PetSaver™ handbook and, upon successful completion, each participant will receive a certificate and wallet card.

A jewel-encrusted collar can’t save your pet’s life but, at just $125 per person, this class can. Pet shelters take note as your staff and volunteers are eligible for a special discount. For class details and to register online, visit or contact 877-318-8172 or for more information.

The Pet CPR and First Aid Workshop is part of a series of workshops being held consecutively with IBPSA’s annual Pet Care Services Conference and Tradeshow, October 19-22, 2015, at the Grapevine Convention Center. Conference speakers and sessions are dedicated to helping pet care services grow their business, plan for the future, and maintain balance. Additional workshops include Pricing For Profit and, for those brand new to the business or thinking about getting in, Pet Care Business Basics.
